Who is FRIEND in Deltarune?
FRIEND is the name used for a recurring, unsettling entity often seen as a smiling face with mismatched pink and yellow eyes. It is a different search subject from Friendship, the Chapter 1 music track.
FRIEND, DEVICE_FRIEND, and IMAGE_FRIEND
The name comes from internal game labels including DEVICE_FRIEND and IMAGE_FRIEND. Community references use FRIEND to connect appearances that are easy to miss. A filename identifies an asset or object; it does not, by itself, establish that character's complete identity or story purpose.
The pink-and-yellow face is a useful visual clue. Matching colors alone are not proof that every similarly colored character or object is the same being.
A spoiler-light place to start
Documented appearances begin in Chapter 2, including the basement of Queen's Mansion. The official Spamton Sweepstakes website also contains related imagery on its chair and rare-cats pages. The chair page can contain a sudden image and sound.
If you have only just noticed the face, you do not need a future-chapter theory to recognize it. Start with the scene you actually saw, then compare the image and the chapter in a source that labels spoilers.
Later-chapter context — appearance spoilers
Community documentation records further appearances in Chapters 3–5, including hostile behavior and a red appearance in Chapter 5. Whether these represent one entity or multiple related beings is still uncertain. The FRIEND reference page contains detailed encounter descriptions and major spoilers.
What should stay a theory?
Claims about a final identity, an unseen controller, or a future story role need evidence beyond a filename or a shared palette. This guide does not turn a resemblance into a confirmed connection.
When comparing theories, ask three separate questions: What is visible in the game? What is an internal label? What explanation is the author adding? Keeping those apart lets you enjoy speculation without accidentally treating it as a walkthrough fact.
Is FRIEND a Soul color or personality result?
This site does not assign FRIEND a Soul Virtue or use it as a quiz outcome. If you want an interactive activity after reading, the Deltarune SOUL Mode Test is an independent play-style activity. It does not identify you as this entity or reveal hidden game lore.
