Toby Fox's Summer 2026 newsletter provides more useful context than the store FAQ alone. It describes Chapter 5 as completing the final setup needed for Chapters 6 and 7. Chapter 6 is described as shorter and more straightforward, focused on one part of the story, and intended to clarify one important point while leaving other subjects untouched.
The newsletter also says Chapter 6 is planned to release by itself rather than waiting to be bundled with Chapter 7. At the time of that update, writing and room structure were still being adjusted toward a rough beginning-to-end version.
